- DLG Announces Availability of Cemetery Preservation Grants
Tuesday, September 30, 2008 FRANKFORT, KY (September 30, 2008) – Department for Local Government (DLG) Commissioner Tony Wilder has announced that the agency will reopen the window for applications for the Cemetery Preservation Fund. The purpose of the program is to provide grants for the restoration and maintenance of non-profit cemeteries not receiving perpetual care funds.
- Governor Awards Grant for Sacramento Housing Project
Thursday, August 14, 2008 FRANKFORT, KY (August 11, 2008) – Gov. Steve Beshear, in conjunction with the Department for Local Government (DLG), has awarded the city of Sacramento with a $418,000 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG)for a Homeower Rehabilitation Project. The funds will be used to reduce substandard housing with a plan to reconstruct units belonging to qualifying low income, disabled and/or elderly homeowners.
- ARC Study: Disproportionately High Rates of Substance Use in Appalachia
Thursday, August 14, 2008 (LONDON, Ky) April 12, 2008—According to an ARC commissioned study announced today by Kentucky Governor Steven Beshear and ARC Federal Co-Chair Anne Pope, Appalachia suffers from disproportionately high rates of substance use and mental health disorders, including the alarmingly increasing abuse of prescription painkillers. Conducted for ARC by the National Opinion Research Center (NORC) at the University of Chicago, the study also reveals that Appalachia is doing better than the rest of the nation in terms of access to treatment for substance use and mental health problems.
- City of Carrollton Wins Spirit of Kentucky Award
Thursday, August 14, 2008 FRANKFORT, KY (August 5, 2008) – During the 33rd annual Governor’s Local Issues Conference held in Louisville August 4-6, the City of Carrollton was awarded the 2008 Commissioner’s Spirit of Kentucky Award for its role in developing the Gallatin, Carroll, Henry and Owen County Regional Wastewater System. The award is given to the sponsors of a public project that demonstrates cost effective coordination of government resources among multiple government entities.
- Gov. Beshear Announces $2 Million Block Grant For Russell County
Friday, July 25, 2008 FRANKFORT, KY (July 25, 2008) – Gov. Steve Beshear and the Department for Local Government (DLG) have awarded Russell County a $2,000,000 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) to assist in the expansion of an existing manufacturing industry which will create 150 new jobs.

Tuesday, June 17, 2008 FRANKFORT, KY (June 17, 2008) – As directed by an executive order, Governor Steve Beshear has changed the Governor’s Office for Local Development (GOLD) to its original name, Department for Local Government (DLG). The new name took effect yesterday, June 16, 2008.

Steve Beshear, in conjunction with the Governor’s Office for Local Development (GOLD), has awarded a $100,000 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) to Frankfort and Franklin County to establish a regional microenterprise training program to educate and assist existing and potential small business owners with five employees or less.

Steve Beshear, in conjunction with the Governor’s Office for Local Development (GOLD) and the Recreational Trails Advisory Board, has announced the approval of 25 Recreational Trails Program (RTP) grants for a total allocation of $1,231,844.

Steve Beshear presented the City of Manchester with a ceremonial check today commemorating the award of a $1,000,000 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG). The funds will be used towards the design and construction of a new water treatment plant to serve all of Clay County.

Friday, May 09, 2008 FRANKFORT, KY (May 7, 2008) – Gov. Steve Beshear, in conjunction with the Governor’s Office for Local Development (GOLD), has announced his recommendation for the approval of a $400,000 Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) grant which, along with allocated state funds, will assist in the construction of a permanent interactive exhibit for the East Kentucky Science Center (EKSC) in Prestonsburg.
