- Governor Beshear Announces Lincoln County Economic Development Grant
Thursday, December 18, 2008 FRANKFORT, KY (December 16, 2008) – Today Gov. Steve Beshear, in conjunction with the Department for Local Government (DLG), announced a $680,000 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) to support a new industry in Lincoln County.
- Gov. Beshear visits school in support of Save the Children
Thursday, December 18, 2008 WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. (Dec. 18, 2008) – Emphasizing the importance of childhood education, Gov. Steve Beshear today visited Whitley Central Primary School in support of Save the Children, whose programs for rural communities provide literacy, physical activity, nutrition and early childhood support to children in need.
- DLG Accepting Applications for Recreational Trails and Land and Water Grants
Tuesday, November 25, 2008 FRANKFORT, KY (November 25, 2008) – The Department for Local Government (DLG) is currently accepting applications for two grant programs to be awarded in 2009: Recreational Trails Program grant applications will be accepted through February 1, 2009 and the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) applications will be accepted through March 1, 2009.
- Berea Leadership Institute Receives ARC Grant
Monday, October 20, 2008 (Frankfort, KY) October 17, 2008— The Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC), in conjunction with Gov. Steve Beshear and the Department for Local Government, has announced that the Brushy Fork Institute in Berea, KY, will receive a $400,000 grant. The Institute, which is part of Berea College, will use the funds to provide community development training for community leaders in 37 economically distressed Appalachian counties in eastern Kentucky.
- DLG Announces Availability of Cemetery Preservation Grants
Tuesday, September 30, 2008 FRANKFORT, KY (September 30, 2008) – Department for Local Government (DLG) Commissioner Tony Wilder has announced that the agency will reopen the window for applications for the Cemetery Preservation Fund. The purpose of the program is to provide grants for the restoration and maintenance of non-profit cemeteries not receiving perpetual care funds.
- Governor Awards Grant for Sacramento Housing Project
Thursday, August 14, 2008 FRANKFORT, KY (August 11, 2008) – Gov. Steve Beshear, in conjunction with the Department for Local Government (DLG), has awarded the city of Sacramento with a $418,000 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG)for a Homeower Rehabilitation Project. The funds will be used to reduce substandard housing with a plan to reconstruct units belonging to qualifying low income, disabled and/or elderly homeowners.
- ARC Study: Disproportionately High Rates of Substance Use in Appalachia
Thursday, August 14, 2008 (LONDON, Ky) April 12, 2008—According to an ARC commissioned study announced today by Kentucky Governor Steven Beshear and ARC Federal Co-Chair Anne Pope, Appalachia suffers from disproportionately high rates of substance use and mental health disorders, including the alarmingly increasing abuse of prescription painkillers. Conducted for ARC by the National Opinion Research Center (NORC) at the University of Chicago, the study also reveals that Appalachia is doing better than the rest of the nation in terms of access to treatment for substance use and mental health problems.
- City of Carrollton Wins Spirit of Kentucky Award
Thursday, August 14, 2008 FRANKFORT, KY (August 5, 2008) – During the 33rd annual Governor’s Local Issues Conference held in Louisville August 4-6, the City of Carrollton was awarded the 2008 Commissioner’s Spirit of Kentucky Award for its role in developing the Gallatin, Carroll, Henry and Owen County Regional Wastewater System. The award is given to the sponsors of a public project that demonstrates cost effective coordination of government resources among multiple government entities.
- Gov. Beshear Announces $2 Million Block Grant For Russell County
Friday, July 25, 2008 FRANKFORT, KY (July 25, 2008) – Gov. Steve Beshear and the Department for Local Government (DLG) have awarded Russell County a $2,000,000 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) to assist in the expansion of an existing manufacturing industry which will create 150 new jobs.
